*Please note, that there is a joining seam along the width of the bigger sized protectors because the width of the fabric is 59″ (150 cm). We chose to make the seam along the width because it could be placed at the level of your knees/feet or at the level of your head and under your pillow, so it would not be disturbing. If requested, we could make the seam along the length of the protector, right through the middle of it.

This mattress protector is so nice. We ordered it to protect our shikibuton mattress that we ordered as well. So much better than anything we could have purchased from a store! If you’re getting the mattress then go ahead and get this as well. You won’t regret it.

Our mattress came and it’s beautiful and amazing – just like our sons that we also ordered. We have thoroughly enjoyed sleeping on it! This shop is perfection from communication to shipping to packaging to artisan pieces. Overjoyed!

I find this protector pad to be essential for pairing with your new wool mattress. I have a king Shikibuton in wool fabric, and bought this to protect it. It is a thick fabric and has already proven it’s worth with a few accidents from our co-sleeping toddler. I have some tips for care and washing of this pad: buy three products…lanolin to waterproof the wool (use more than a pea sized amount as recommended, it’s not nearly enough, Google ice cube method for lanolizing, it’s the easiest). Lanolize pad before use. When pad gets a dirty spot, hand wash in lukewarm water very gently with Buncha Farmer’s stain stick. It’s natural/biodegradable and works wonders. Then, the spot you have cleaned no longer is lanolized. Instead of re-lanolizing the whole pad, buy a bottle of spray lanolin and just spray the cleaned spot. I hope this helps someone else! It feels incredible to be sleeping on such a high quality and organic bed every night. You will love it!

This is a a very nice wool protector and I found the design far superior to the typical polyester/cotton mattress protector sold in America. I found lanolizing it to be a little tricky and like another reviewer, I ended up with some clumping too. My mistake was to lanolize in a kitchen sink which was not nearly large enough for the queen size protector I had. Start with a very clean bath tub and lanolize there. So much better. I also think you need about 2-3 teaspoons of well dissolved lanolin for that size protector. After several hours of soaking in the tub, remove protector to washing machine and spin out water. Air dry on a clothesline if you have one
