Our OEKO-TEX® and Woolmark certified 100% Virgin Wool Jersey is softer and more flexible than our tighter-woven virgin wool fabric, with gentle give and a supple feel. Our 100% Virgin Wool Jersey brings a softer touch to clothing and home projects that call for flexibility rather than a firm, structured finish. Made entirely from virgin wool, it has a substantial 430 gsm weight while remaining supple in the hand. The OEKO-TEX® and Woolmark logos identify the fabric’s certifications.

The difference starts with the construction. Jersey is knitted from interlocking loops of yarn, allowing the fabric to give and move. Our woven virgin wool fabric has a tighter weave and a more structured feel. Choosing between them comes down to the finish you want: soft and yielding, or firmer and more defined.

Wool’s comfort goes beyond its texture. Its fibres absorb moisture vapour and release it into the surrounding air, helping manage humidity close to your body. This natural breathability complements the jersey’s cosy feel without the need for synthetic fibres.

At 149 cm wide before washing, this jersey is suitable for sewing garments as well as scarves, wraps, and soft home accessories. Choose a sewing pattern designed for a knit of similar weight, checking its stretch requirements before starting. For clothing and fitted covers, matching the fabric to the pattern is just as important as choosing a texture you love.

When planning how much fabric to order, start with your pattern’s requirements and account for first-wash shrinkage. The fabric shrinks by 30% along its length and 2% across its width, leaving approximately 146 cm of width after washing. Use this washed width when arranging your pattern pieces and calculating the length you need.

To calculate the length to order, divide the length you need after washing by 0.70. For example, a project requiring 2 metres after washing needs at least 2.86 metres before washing. Simply adding 30% to the required length would leave you short.

Include seam and hem allowances where your pattern does not already account for them, and leave extra for testing stitches. Wash and dry the fabric according to the care instructions before measuring and cutting your pieces.
