Step 1: Choose the size of the duvet insert

Believe it or not, the size of the duvet is important for comfort and sleep experience. Longer and wider duvets make your bed look better, but also add a bit of comfort – allowing you to freely toss underneath.

When choosing the duvet insert, consider the size of the mattress and the size of the bed frame. Also, make sure to take into consideration the position of the bed – is it next to a wall, or is it free standing? A free-standing bed could be beautifully styled with an oversized duvet and duvet covers. If it’s next to a wall, however, an oversized duvet won’t be that practical.

What is the temperature of your bedroom most of the time? That is one of the first things you should consider when choosing the weight or the thickness of your wool duvet. Ours come in three weight options: Summer, Winter, and Extra Warm. That doesn’t mean that you are limited to just 3 weight options, however, since we do have a paired alternative.

One of the main differences between the three main weights is… the weight itself and the warmth it provides. So, if you feel comfortable under heavy comforters and sleep in a cold room, then the Extra Warm duvet insert option would be perfect for you. If not, you might want to consider our lighter options.

We’ve got you covered with our paired duvet inserts set. This is a very practical option. It allows you to tie together two duvets and use them as one when in need. Feel free to mix and match the weights as much as you wish! You can combine different thicknesses and cover fabrics (preferably 100% Unbleached Cotton or 50% كتان/50% قطن) as you feel most suitable for you.

Step 3: Choose the fabric of the duvet insert

Choosing the fabric of your wool duvet is the next step you’d have to go through. We have selected fabrics that will maximize the performance of the wool batting inside our duvets. But if you have other preferences, you can always have a look at our fabric swatch and request a custom fabric for your duvet. We mostly recommend our 100% Cotton (lightweight), the 50% Linen/ 50% Cotton Blend, and the 100% Virgin Wool Fabric.

Cotton is extremely breathable and the softest to the touch of our fabrics. It’s lightweight and is perfect for people who do not like heavy comforters.

Linen resists stains like no other fabric, so it is very easy to maintain the fabric clean. The higher the linen percentage in a fabric, the more durable it is.

100% Virgin Sheep Wool 

Wool is amazing at regulating body temperature and moisture. It keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Wool has anti-microbial properties and is dust-mite repellent. Wool is also our heaviest fabric and thus it is perfect for people who prefer heavier comforters. A wool comforter with a wool fabric has a feel like a heavy/ weight blanket.

Questions and Tips

What is the difference between Home of Wool Oeko-Tex certified wool duvets and Home of Wool GOTS certified Organic wool duvets?

The difference is in the name of the certificate and in the pricing that is also based on the certificate itself. At Home of Wool, we focus on making healthy wool mattresses, bedding, and home décor items out of the most natural and pure materials available, using only wool, linen, cotton, and silk. We never use finishes, flame retardants, synthetics, and chemicals of any sort.

أويكو-تكس is one of the oldest and most reliable standards out there. Although less recognizable by customers outside of Europe, when you see it on a product you can be certain it’s been tested for hundreds of chemicals and harmful substances. These include substances in the ready product but also substances that are activated and become harmful during the normal use of the product. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 includes regulations regarding prohibited azo dyes, formaldehyde, nickel, etc. Chemicals harmful to health are also tested if they have not yet been statutorily regulated.

GOTS is one of the most recognizable organic certificates, and specifically in North America. The standard covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading, and distribution of all textiles. It evaluates all chemicals used in the processes, to meet basic requirements on toxicity and biodegradability and does not allow the use of toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, functional nano particles, genetically modified organisms (GMO) and their enzymes, no chlorine bleaching, no azo dyes, phthalates, and PVC.

Is it difficult to care for a wool duvet?
