Dr. Maria Montessori designed and developed the sensorial materials to help children develop and refine their five senses: the sense of taste, sense of smell, sense of touch, sense of hearing, and sense of sight.

In Montessori classrooms and homes all over the world, children are encouraged to learn through their hands – by touching, feeling, and doing.

The Montessori Fabrics Box is designed to develop and refine the tactile sense of the children while trying to match the fabrics two by two when shown how to do it by an adult. At first – with open eyes and afterward – blindfolded.

Our Home of Wool Fabrics Box contains 6 pairs of all-natural, undyed, and unbleached fabrics (9 x 9 cm / 3.5 x 3.5’’) in a cardstock box:

All of these fabrics have a very specific texture and we are sure that both kids and parents will discover a lot through that material.

When your kids are ready for that, you may also present them the names of the fabrics, further increasing their vocabulary, while telling them about how these fabrics were created.

The story of the creation of the Mulberry Silk would be particularly interesting. You could even go further and take care of a silkworm for a while and witness its metamorphosis: feeding it Mulberry leaves, then watching it transform into a cocoon and afterward into a butterfly!
