Description

Due to the size and weight limitations on international packages, we make larger mattresses in two pieces.

This listing is for 2x mattresses at half the thickness, layered on top of each other or 2x mattresses at full thickness placed side-by-side. When ordering plese select 2 ITEMS to see the final price.

This layered setup also allows you to have 2 separate thinner beds when you need to, when you have guests for example.
And you can more easily transport them because each piece is half the weight of a regular queen mattress.

Upon request we can put zippers along the middle edge where the mattresses meet so they can zip them together and it truly creates a single piece.
Wool mattresses have no hard elements inside so this setup doesn’t compromise comfort. If your bed has no boards to surround the mattresses and press them together We recommend a zip cover to enclose both pieces and keep them tightly together, this way they will truly work as one. And at the same time you will have a washable cover that protects them from dirt and wearing.
A topper will also help make a unified surface, and add to the thickness.

The stacked option eliminates the need for having a topper or a zippered cover without sacrificing comfort. Of course, if you decide you want a topper eventually, you can always get one later.

We realize that it is difficult to describe how a wool mattress feels and give advice, because comfort is a matter of personal preference, but we can say wool mattresses are softer during the first couple months of use while the wool compresses. After that they could be described as mid-firm to firm. You do not sink deep into the mattress. Still, wool mattresses could not be compared to any other type of mattress because of the unique way wool fibers support our body weight. Wool mattresses give you a completely new experience of comfort and are unique in how they regulate your body temperature. And you really start to sleep tighter and longer.

Wool mattresses perform best on solid flat surfaces. Best would be a perforated hardboard base, because it allows the bottom part of the mattress to air. But you can use it directly on the floor as well, just note that in that case you will need to rotate more frequently so the bottom side will be able to air out. Slatted frames are also a good base as long as they have less than 2″ distance between the slats so the mattress will not sag in the openings. Slatted frames allow the bottom side to air so you can rotate the mattress les frequently.

We place metal zippers on all 4 sides of the mattress – long ones along each short side and short ones in the middles of the long sides. Please, let us know if you need a different solution. We can also offer plastic zippers upon request.

We include a long needle and a thread with every mattress purchase. If after a few years (approximately 10) you feel that the mattress needs to be refilled, you may return it to our shop or simply do it by yourselves – it is easier than sewing a button.

Wool mattresses weigh less than latex or spring mattresses. We send them rolled up in a cylinder measuring about 24″ diameter x 39″ tall.

Note: Wool mattresses should last you 20, 30 or even more years depending on how you care for them. When you receive the mattress, the wool will still be freshly carded so it will come a bit thicker than advertised, and in the first months of use the wool will settle and the mattress will end up at about the advertised thickness. During that time, you will need to flip and rotate the mattress weekly (or more often if you can) head to toe and top to bottom – this will ensure wool compresses evenly. After the first 2-3 months, we advise to flip it once monthly. And finally – once a year, on a sunny day, allow the mattress to air out in the sun – sun has a natural cleaning ability.

After weeks of searching to find the “perfect” cushions for a palette couch I was building, I discovered Home of Wool and knew I finally found them. Throughout the whole process, Rosica was so sweet and helpful – always replying quickly with lots of great advice on how to customize the items to best suit my needs. My order was shipped within a week and arrived just a couple weeks later. Upon opening the mattress & pillows I was so excited. They’re soft-to-the-touch, comfortable and absolutely gorgeous. Plus, the subtle smell of wool is incredible. The fabric (50% linen 50% cotton) is perfect in colour, texture & durability – I couldn’t be happier and look forward to enjoying them for many years to come!

This is our second mattress from HOW and we love it! I was suffering from a pinched nerve from our last conventional mattress. The pain went away when I started sleeping on wool. It is so warm in the winter time (no cold mattress) and very comfortable. Makes me feel good to know it has NOT been sprayed with fire retardant like most other mattresses. The only real issue we’ve had with our queen size is a peak of wool has formed in the middle. It’s not a big deal and we are working on sleeping in that spot to push it down. Very quality mattress and such a good deal at 1/3 the price of wool mattresses in the US.

The mattress is so comfy and definitely improves the posture. It took a while to get here but it was worth the wait.Would definitely get a cover for it because you don’t Wana use that needle and sew it open and sew it back again.

I LOVE these mattresses! They are wonderfully comfortable, affordable, and pure. The toxic pillowtop mattress I was sleeping on gave me chronic back and shoulder pain. I didn’t even realize it was the mattress until my back/shoulder pain completely went away after switching out the toxic mattress with the wool one. It is a beautiful, well-made product, and I recently bought another one for my children.

Love the mattress! I am so glad that there is an option to buy a chemical free mattress. Even with shipping costs from Bulgaria to the US, I think this is an affordable option compared to what is out there for chemical free mattresses. I am very happy with the quality and would highly recommend. I had a shipping error and TheHomeofWool followed up making sure I received my mattress. I would not hesitate to order from TheHomeofWool again.

Item is exactly as expected. I sleep great, and wake up feeling more refreshed than ever; wool hugs body form, yet is packed firm supporting well. (The branded zipper pulls are adorable) Shipping took 7 weeks (Bulgaria to Portland OR) DURING HOLIDAYS/WEATHER DELAYS. It’s completely worth the wait.

I received my mattress about a month ago and it is fantastic. The linen cover is really thick and the quality of construction first class. I specified a relatively thin version 4″ which I have on tatami mats and it has so far been excellent for my problematic back , far more comfortable and waking up far less stiff than on any modern style mattress.

I’m loving my new mattress. It’s super high quality and arrived within a few weeks. We are getting used to sleeping on it since it’s more firm than our last mattress but I have peace of mind knowing it’s chemical-free and all-natural. Thank you Rosica!

We LOVE our new mattress!! It’s the most comfortable mattress we have ever owned and large enough for the two little rascals we have to sneak into bed with us in the middle of the night! Thank you so much!!

These mattresses are beautiful. Absolutely a work of art. I’m reminded of my childhood when my sister and I slept on a cotton mattress when we visited relatives. The quality is top-notch and, ordering from Bulgaria was a little nerve-wracking. However, these products arrived in very short time and the owner kept in touch about a slight delay in manufacturing. Upon arrival, they were packed in a very nice zippered handle bag and wrapped well in plastic to prevent tears and other problems. Once opened, a beautiful lavendar sachet fell out and they even included a tufting needle and cotton thread with my order. These mattresses were ordered for my tiny house that I will use for an Air BnB. I am jealous! I’d like to be the beneficiary, but I’m thrilled that my guests will be able to enjoy these wonderful items.

I was very nervous about purchasing a new mattress. Its for my daughter and we have had bad experiences before ordering “organic natural” mattresses and bedding. This mattress is wonderful and beautifully made. The smell is minimal, and its a nice firm solidly made product. My daughter would say that the only down side is, is that it doesn’t bounce so she can’t jump on it! We are very happy with our new mattress and I feel good about her sleeping on something that isnt going to harm her. Thank you very much!

  • Q. Can you make every item in a custom size and shape?

We make all of our items to order so we can make all of them in the size & shape you need.
Just drop us a message to let us know what dimensions you’d like.
There are limitations in terms of weight and size for international packages, but most items will fit in them.

  • Q. What is the make time for your products?

We usually make smaller items in 2-5 days and larger items in 7-10 days. We will send you a tracking number as soon as we dispatch your order.

  • What is the delivery time of your products?

Packages that weigh 4 pounds or less, such as protectors, chair cushions, bassinet mattresses, take 8-10 days to deliver to any country.

Larger items take 8-12 days to most countries in Europe, 2-3 weeks outside Europe, and up to 4 weeks for some remote areas like islands.

The Christmas holidays are a busy time at the posts and some packages may be delayed, but not necessarily. Sometimes we’ve had deliveries taking up to 5 weeks, in December and January.

In the first few days to a week, you will see one of the following updates on the tracking – “Preparing order for shipment”, “Processed Through Facility”, “Insert item into bag”, “Receive item at office of exchange”.

  • What shipping method do you use?

We use registered mail so you will have a tracking number to follow the package and a signature will be required to collect it. If you’re not home they will leave you a note so you can pick it up from the post office. They normally keep it for 2 weeks, but I would advise strongly that you keep an eye on the tracking so you know when it arrives, because we have cases where the postman doesn’t leave a note at the door even though they attempted delivery.

  • Where do I track my package?

We use registered mail so you will have a tracking number to follow the package.

You can track your package here:  http://www.track-trace.com by placing your tracking number at the empty field against Post/EMS(with USPS).

The first update means that your package has LEFT Bulgaria on the shown date.

The next update will become available only after the package enters your country, no updates in the meanwhile (5-15 days, depending on your country and size of order)

You may contact us if your package has not entered your country in 20-25 days. We cannot speed up the delivery, but we can issue an official query to the post to try to locate the package.

Lost packages are extremely rare in our experience.

  • Q. How much does it cost to have a custom item made?

We calculate the price depending to the size of the item, your choice of fabric for the cover, and the amount of the wool filling.

  • Q. How does a wool mattress feel?

We realize that it is difficult to describe how a wool mattress feels and give advice, because comfort is mostly a matter of personal preference.
All wool mattresses are softer during the first 2-3 months of use while the wool compresses. After that they could be described as mid-firm to firm. You do not sink deep into the mattress. Still, wool mattresses could not be compared to any other type of mattress because of the unique way wool fibers manage to support our body weight. Wool mattresses give you a completely new experience of comfort and are unique in how they regulate your body temperature. And you really start to sleep tighter and longer.
You may read the reviews from our clients here.

  • Q. What base should I use for a wool mattress?

Wool mattresses perform best on solid flat surfaces. Slatted frames are also good but should have no more than 2″ distance between the slats so the mattress will not sag in the openings.

  • Q. Is tufting simply decorative?

As beautiful as tufting is, it is in fact a structural part of the cushion. It is intended to keep the wool filling in place. Thus there is a thread connecting the ‘buttons’ on both sides of the cushion. If you want to remove the wool filling to machine wash the cover, you need to snip all tufts and re-sew them after. We include a needle and thread with all tufted items.

  • Q. How should I choose the best cover fabric for my item?

Click on the link next to each fabric to find more information about it and a close-up photo for the color and texture.

Linen is the most dirt repellent and one of the most durable. The higher the linen content, the more durable and easy to keep clean the fabric is.This makes items in linen suitable to be used directly on the floor. Linen is great for outdoor use as well.

Wool is the most mildew-resistant one. It is the best in regulating body temperature and moisture, so you’re never too cold or too hot, and prevents you from sweating.

Silk is the strongest of natural fibers and is the best for items that will be touching the skin on your face, like pillow cases.

All of our fabrics are 100% natural and thus offer high moisture absorption and breathability. They are all soft to the touch but not overly soft as chemically treated fabrics.

  • Q. Are wool-filled items suitable for outdoor use?

Wool-filled items are perfect for outdoor use. By nature, wool was intended to be outside (on sheep). However, they need to be protected from direct rain. Because this will soak the entire filling and make the fibers stick and form lumps. Random splashes will be ok, for example by a pool.

  • Q. Should I buy a protector or a zippered cover for my item?

It is always a good investment to get a slipcover as it will keep your mattress fresh as new for much longer. We make our slipcovers with 3-sides long zippers.
Another option would be to have a mattress protector under your sheets. We make 100% wool mattress protectors . The disadvantage of the mattress protector is that it protects only the top side of the mattress (which would be enough if you are going to place your mattress on a bed frame, but not enough if you are going to place it directly on the floor); and the advantage is that it gives you an additional layer of thick wool to sleep on right beneath your sheets.

  • Q. Are the materials you use organic?

Our fabrics are completely natural, free of any chemicals, bleaches and dyes (except the fabrics with stripes), and the crops have not been treated with pesticides and fungicides.
However they are not “certified organic”.
We do offer Oeko-Tex certified fabrics you can see here:

● 100% Cotton (heavyweight, unbleached, Oeko-tex certified)
● 62% Linen / 38% Cotton blend (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (from flax, Oeko-Tex certified)
100% Linen (flax) with multiple blue stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (flax) with 2 blue stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (flax) with red stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (flax) with thin red stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (flax) with thin grey stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (flax) with 3 grey stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Linen (flax) with black stripes (Oeko-Tex certified)
● 100% Cotton (Oeko-tex certified, unbleached, mediumweight)
● 59% Linen / 41% Cotton (Oeko-Tex certified)

The certificate shows that the fabric is tested for harmful substances and meets certain human-ecological requirements of the standard presently established for baby articles.

  • Q. What is lanolizing?

Lanolin is nature’s way of waterproofing wool, and one of the reasons wool covers actually work! Lanolizing the wool restores the natural lanolin on the wool fibers that is being washed off from the water and soap.

Lanolizing instructions:

  1. Begin with dry, clean wool (the mattress protectors are machine washable at wool program with a detergent for wool).
  2. Draw a pan/bucket/sink of lukewarm water. Hot water will felt and shrink wool.
  3. Take a separate cup of very hot water, add a pea size of pure lanolin. Stir to dissolve. Dissolving well is very important to avoid sticky spots on the wool.
  4. Once well dissolved add to the sink of lukewarm water and mix well.
  5. Add your wool, soaking it through with the lukewarm, lanolin-rich bath. Let sit for a minimum of 3 hours to overnight.
  6. When it is time to dry the protector gently squeeze the fabric. Hang it and let it dry
