FAQ

Yes, the mattress is an ideal choice for maintaining comfort throughout the year as it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer due to the natural insulation properties of the wool inside.

The mattress is perfectly safe since the wool and lanolin are encased by the ticking fabric, which can be organic cotton or linen, that prevents direct skin contact and minimizes the risk of allergic reactions. Additionally, our wool is GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified which guarantees the absence of harmful toxins or synthetic materials that could potentially trigger chemical allergies.

All of our fabrics are very durable.
Wool is perhaps the most durable fabric. Wool fibers have natural resilience and can endure repeated use and bending. Wool is often used in high-quality upholstery and bedding due to its ability to maintain its shape and resist pilling.

Linen is a close second. Linen fibers are thick and sturdy, making them less prone to wear and tear. They can withstand frequent use and tend to improve in softness and comfort over time.

Cotton fibers are softer and finer than linen and wool, which can make them more susceptible to wear and tear over time. However, the durability of cotton can vary depending on the weave and quality of the fabric. Our 100% organic cotton is certified, durable, and incredibly comfortable. With proper care the fabric can last for decades.

Sheets act as a protective layer against sweat and dirt, keeping allergens and bacteria at bay. Sheets are easier to wash than the mattress itself, ensuring a cleaner sleeping space and prolonging your mattress’s lifespan.

While it won’t affect the comfort and support the mattress provides, the synthetic sheet can act as a barrier, potentially reducing the benefits of wool. For a more natural sleeping experience without chemicals and toxins, it’s best to go for cotton, wool, silk or linen sheets.

No, the child won’t feel the tufts of the mattress. The mattress’s outer layer is soft, and the kids’s body will sink in evenly, ensuring a comfortable and smooth sleeping surface without any noticeable dents or discomfort.

A wool mattress can be an excellent choice for humid environments since wool is naturally a highly breathable material that wicks away moisture and is resistant to mildew and mold.
To improve air circulation and reduce moisture accumulation, consider removing the sheets during the day, exposing the mattress to sunlight, and installing a dehumidifier in the room.

Our mattresses are perfectly safe for newborns. They are thin, flat, and firm with excellent support that provides comfort while eliminating the possibility of suffocation or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Both the wool filling and the fabric are also very breathable and allow air to flow through.

Bassinet mattresses are smaller and designed for smaller infants, requiring an even firmer and safer sleeping surface to prevent the baby from sinking into the mattress. To achieve this, we make bassinet mattresses much thinner and use layers of wool batting, ensuring a consistent and safe sleeping environment for the lighter body weight babies. For crib mattresses, which accommodate older and heavier babies, we use loose wool filling to provide appropriate support for their weight.

While wool is excellent at wicking moisture away, a protector provides an added layer of protection and minimizes the risk of mold and mildew growing, as well as safeguards against spills and accidents. We offer natural wool protectors to those looking for an organic alternative without dangerous chemicals or synthetics.

*All wool-filled items are subject to some degree of compression. However, we stuff items densely with wool so they come thicker than advertised and over the first months of use compress down to about their advertised thickness.

The mattress is beautiful! It fits snuggly in the bassinet, there are no gaps or loose areas which was extremely important for me.

I don’t think this is a safe product, and wouldn’t recommend it.
The wool compresses, and the instructions state that you should vary the sleeping area so that the compression is even across the pad, and this is totally impractical with a bassinet – potentially dangerous, even.
Because you really can’t alternate where your infant is going to sleep, you end up with a baby-shaped depression in the center, effectively creating something like a moses pod or bumper, both of which are advised against for safe sleep due to the increased incidence of SIDS associated with anything but a completely flat sleep surface.
If this product is going to continue to be sold, I would urge Home of Wool to pre-compress the pads so that this divet doesn’t occur and babies can sleep safely.
We only bought the Halo because we thought this was an option for the mattress, so now I’m out not only the cost of the mattress, sheets and puddle pad, but also the Halo bassinet itself since I’m not comfortable using the polyurethane mattress it came with.
We’re going to scrap it all and get a mini-crib with a non-toxic mattress that won’t compress.
One extra star for the puddle pad, which does appear to be a good protector against accidents. I would love one for our king size bed, and wish I’d spent the money on that instead.

I have no doubt this is the best mattress for newborns. Me and my husband purchased the HALO and we were not satisfied with the original mattress that came with it. It had a horrible smell and it was too soft. This is why I started researching organic clean mattresses and I found Home of Wool. We purchased their baby HALO mattress a few months before our son was born. Once I gave birth and came home I was impressed to see my baby being so calm in the bassinet. He was sleeping so well and I feel like the wool stuffing was like a warm hug for him. The Home of Wool mattress is firm and thin, which was super important for me having read all the guidelines from pediatricians and experts in child safety. It is very supportive and fits perfectly, there are no gaps between the mattress and the bassinet. The feeling of knowing that my baby is sleeping on a mattress that minimizes any hazards is what keeps me calm and confident I made the best choice.
As per the instructions, we flipped and rotated the mattress regularly and the wool stuffing compressed in about 2 weeks. I also purchased a protector and fitted sheets and I totally recommend them!
