PICK A SUITABLE BASE FOR MATTRESSES
To ensure comfort and longevity, choose a suitable base. We recommend solid wooden slats spaced at no more than 2” apart. This will provide support and sufficient air circulation. Slats spaced over 2” apart may cause the mattress/cushion to sag in the gaps, causing the wool to compress unevenly, and you also may be able to feel the slats. Wool mattresses perform great on solid flat surfaces but make sure to rotate regularly to get them aired out since box spring and solid platforms block airflow.
NATURAL WOOL COMPRESSION
Each wool mattress will naturally compress about 10-15% in thickness during the first few months of use. We accommodate the wool compression by stuffing our mattresses densely, so they come thicker than advertised. To avoid dips forming where your body naturally lays or sits you simply need to:
FIRMNESS & LOFT
If at any point you find the mattress/topper to be too firm or if the wool compresses unevenly or too much, you can easily reach in through the zippers to adjust the wool filling or add wool for a fresh fluffy layer.
CLEANING
Do not wash with the filling. Stains on the outside should be spot cleaned. Zip-off removable covers are machine washable. Close the zipper for washing. Air dry completely. Once a year air out in the sun for a day, if possible.
In case of a wetting incident, take out the wet wool filling, hand wash it gently in lukewarm water, and let it air out in the sun completely before putting it back. Meanwhile, spot-clean the wetted cover. Insert a waterproof piece of material to keep the wool filling inside the mattress dry. Handle carefully to avoid the fibers sticking and forming lumps.
REPAIR TUFTING
Use the complimentary mending kit included in your package to repair tufts if needed.
Step 1: Thread a long piece of twine through your needle. Push the needle through the whole mattress where you wish to repair a tuft (or create a new one) and pull it all the way through. Part of the thread should stay on the other side of the mattress. Let the needle and the thread go through the button or the wool yarn bow.
Step 2: Push the needle back through a hole half an inch away from the one you came out from. Push it all the way through and tug the thread tight.
Step 3: Put the needle through the button or through the wool yarn bow, tie the thread into 3 knots, and snip it.
