For the last 10 years, we have been specializing in creating all kinds of wool-filled all-natural cushions, French mattresses, and home d\u00e9cor items in various sizes and shapes. In this post we are covering all the frequently asked questions our customers have had and some of the advice we have gathered through the experience of creating cushions for more than 7000 homes around the globe.<\/p>\n

What makes Home of Wool cushions and French mattresses so special?<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

We have started our Home of Wool journey to promote a mindful and healthier environment at home. In the creation of all our home d\u00e9cor items, we use naturally renewable raw materials such as wool, cotton, linen, and mulberry silk. Our products are as pure as possible and they are suitable for newborns, adults, and the elderly, for multiple chemical sensitivity sufferers, and for people with allergies.<\/p>\n

Wool is the base that we use for all our creations. Our wool has not been bleached, carbonized, or dyed. It is as safe as it could be and it comes with a multitude of benefits not only for your health but for the planet as well. Wool is environmentally sustainable and biodegradable in soil and water, fire, mildew, and dust mite resistant. It is extremely durable and regulates body temperature like no other material.<\/p>\n

The fabrics we use for your wool-filled creations are also all-natural and pure. All of them are either Oeko Tex or GOTS certified, and they all come in their natural colors. We have a great variety of cotton, wool, linen, silk, and cotton\/linen blends that will add a classy and warm accent to any room.<\/p>\n

One of the greatest features of our cushions is that they are made-to-order, created especially for each one of you. They are all customizable and we can create them to fit any space. Oh, did we mention the heirloom quality?<\/strong><\/p>\n

How to choose the fabric for my cushion or French mattress?<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

All of our fabrics are 100% natural. All of them offer high moisture absorption and breathability and all of them are soft to the touch.<\/p>\n

Linen Fabric<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

100% Linen Our Linen fabric is made in Lithuania and is granted authorization according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Linen bedding is twice as durable as cotton bedding and can last decades, so it is a very wise investment. If you are looking for stain-resistant and dirt-repellent fabric, linen is your number one choice. If you are more into classics, go with our 100% Linen fabric. If you would like to add a rustic natural look to your cushion, pick our textured linen fabric.<\/p>\n

If you would like a bit of color to your room but still stick to natural dyes. You can have a look at our 100% Linen with stripes. These fabrics are made in Lithuania and are granted authorization according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. It is free of coatings, chemical finishes, and finishing. The colors are woven in.<\/p>\n

\nAs a rule of thumb, the higher the linen percentage in a fabric, the more durable it is the easier it is for you to keep clean. Linen is highly dirt-repellent and resists stains like no other fabric. What is more, it is by far our most durable fabric, much stronger than cotton. Linen, together with wool fabric is one of our most durable fabrics.
\nOur Linen \/ Cotton blend has all the benefits of linen but with the added softness and warmth of cotton. The structure of the 62% Linen \/ 38% Cotton fabric is burlap-like, but it is not itchy and does not have the smell of jute burlap. It is perfect for upholstery and covering larger cushions and French mattresses.<\/p>\n

Virgin Wool Fabric<\/em><\/h3>\n

Wool is also a very durable fabric and it is our most mildew-resistant fabric option. It is the best fabric in terms of regulating body temperature and moisture in all seasons, so it is a great option for daybed French mattresses and cushions.

Cotton Fabric<\/em><\/h3>\n

Our heavyweight cotton fabric is GOTS\u00ae Certified. Cotton is an extremely breathable fabric. Its light color and soft texture give every cushion a very light and airy design. Have in mind, however, that cotton is the slowest fabric to dry. It is our lightest fabric in color so dirt shows more on it.<\/p>\n

How to choose the thickness of my cushion?<\/em><\/h4>\n

The decision on the thickness is a matter of comfort, design idea, and visual preferences. We advise wool-filled seating cushions to be no more than 5\u2019\u2019 thick. This ensures they hold up their shape better due to the high pressures from sitting, without sacrificing comfort. However, we do stuff our cushions generously with wool and they do come thicker than advertised and with use will compress to their advertised thickness.<\/p>\n

2\u2019\u2019, 3\u2019\u2019, and 4\u2019\u2019 will work absolutely perfectly for seating cushions, and 4\u2019\u2019 or 5\u2019\u2019 would be a great thickness for a daybed French mattress cushion.<\/p>\n

How to wash a wool-filled cushion?<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

We offer two main design options for our cushions: tufted and with a removable cover. Depending on the design you choose you can machine wash the cover of the cushion. Have in mind, however, that the wool filling itself should be protected from water.
\nTufting is a beautiful decorative element that gives all our cushions a classic French mattress look. However, it is much more than a design detail. It is the base of any wool-filled item, it keeps the wool filling in place so that it doesn\u2019t move around and make the cushion uneven when you use it.<\/p>\n

Even the so-called non-tufted cushions – the ones with a removable cover have tufting. But the way they are constructed is by making the tufting through an insert cushion and then putting over a zip-off cover that hides the tufts. This makes the cover easily removable and machine washable.<\/p>\n

\nFor tufted cushions, we recommend you only spot clean them just like you would spot clean a sofa. However, if you really need to machine wash the cover you can still do that. You will need to snip the tufts, remove the wool filling, wash the cover, refill, and re-tuft the cushion. We always include a needle & thread kit with all the instructions in it and it is not as difficult as it sounds. In fact, it\u2019s more or less like sewing buttons.<\/p>\n
